The Rasnov Citadel
The Rasnov citadel near Bran is closed for restoration; only its garden and the Bathory Tower open, 10 lei. Hours, the lift, and the tours from Brasov that stop there.
The medieval citadel of Rasnov, on its hill between Brasov and Bran, is closed for restoration: the Rasnov town hall’s notice says the monument stays closed to visitors, and only the Citadel Garden and the Bathory Tower at its entrance can be visited, on a 10 lei ticket for anyone over 12, paid by card on site. The citadel is 18.2 km by road from Brasov’s Council Square and 13.1 km from Bran Castle, so the small-group days from Brasov fit it between Bran and the bear sanctuary at Zarnesti. MAYA TOURS srl’s Brașov: Bran Castle, Bear Sanctuary, & Râșnov Citadel Tour is one, about 6 hours with up to 8 people; it was from $60 a person, checked November 2026.
The calendar above is MAYA TOURS srl’s day from Brasov, with 416 reviews (checked November 2026).
The short answer
Go to Rasnov for the view and the walls from outside, not for the inside of the citadel, which you cannot enter. As a stop on a day from Brasov that also takes in Bran and the bears it is worth the hour; on its own it is not worth a trip from Bucharest. None of the day trips from Bucharest carded on this site stops there.

What is open, and what is not
| Status | Ticket | |

| The medieval citadel | Closed for restoration | None sold |
| Citadel Garden and the Bathory Tower | Open | 10 lei, over 12 only; under 12 free |
| Lift up the hill (the inclined lift) | Runs | 30 lei return for an adult, 20 lei for a child; one way 20 or 10 lei |
From the Rasnov town hall’s notice (primariarasnov.ro) and the citadel’s own site (cetatea-rasnov.ro), read 3 November 2026. The garden ticket is sold on site only, by card; the town hall states that it is not a ticket to the medieval monument under restoration.
The garden opens 9:00 to 19:00 in June, July and August and 9:00 to 17:00 in winter, by the citadel’s own site, which does not say when each season starts. The garden ticket has been charged since 13 August 2025.
So whichever tour you take, Rasnov means the garden, the tower and the view from the hill: Brasovtrips’ day with the bears, Bran and Rasnov, for one, spends its hour there in the garden, without going inside the citadel.

Where it is

Rasnov is a small town on the road from Brasov to Bran: 18.2 km by road from Brasov’s Council Square to the citadel, and 13.1 km on to Bran Castle, 31.3 km in all. The citadel sits on the wooded hill above the town, and the Libearty Bear Sanctuary is in the forest outside Zarnesti, west of Rasnov.
When will it reopen?
Not soon. The town hall has published no reopening date. In October 2026 the Romanian press (g4media.ro, 12 October 2026) reported that the works had stopped in 2022, that a new contract for the restoration had been put out to tender in April 2026 and the result contested, and that in the most optimistic case part of the citadel would reopen in 2029. Treat the date as the press’s estimate, not the town’s.

The bear sanctuary
The days from Brasov pair Rasnov with the Libearty Bear Sanctuary at Zarnesti, a reserve for brown bears rescued from captivity. Its own site says it is always closed on Mondays, opens in the mornings from Tuesday to Sunday, and does not admit children under 5, for safety, so bring proof of a child’s age. The classic visit is from 95 lei for an adult, and tickets go on sale 10 days before the date (millionsoffriends.org, November 2026). MEDIEVAL ROMANIA TOURS’ Bucharest day with Bran Castle, the bear sanctuary and Brasov reaches it from Bucharest. For Bran Castle’s own tickets and hours, see Dracula’s Castle tickets.
