Bucharest to Bran Castle
Bucharest to Bran Castle: 185.9 km by road, a day trip, the train to Brasov and a bus or taxi to Bran, or a private car. What each takes and what we could confirm.
From Bucharest to Bran Castle it is 185.9 km by road from the Grand Hotel Bucharest, on the direct road up the Prahova valley through Sinaia and Predeal and then by Rasnov, without going into Brasov. There is no train to Bran: the railway goes to Brasov, and the last 28.4 km by road from Brasov’s Autogara 2 bus station is by bus or taxi. For a single day, a group day trip is the simplest way, and it adds Peles and Brasov on the way: One Excellence Tours’ Dracula’s Castle, Peles & Brasov Day Trip from Bucharest takes 11 to 12 hours; it was from $28 in current promotion (usually $56) a person, checked November 2026.
The calendar above is One Excellence Tours’ day from Bucharest, with 13,170 reviews (checked November 2026).
The short answer
For one day, book a day trip: it is one booking, the coach waits for you, and it stops at Peles Castle and Brasov, which the train and bus would make into separate legs. Go by train if you are staying in Brasov for a night or two; then Bran is a short bus or taxi ride away. Take a private car if you are a group of three or more and want your own timing.

The route

The road leaves Bucharest north across the plain, climbs the Prahova valley through Sinaia, Busteni and Azuga, crosses the pass at Predeal into Transylvania, and turns west past Rasnov to Bran: 185.9 km by road from the Grand Hotel Bucharest. The day trips take a longer loop, because they stop at Peles in Sinaia and in Brasov’s old town before Bran: 217.0 km by road to Bran by that route.
Option 1: a day trip
The day trips are built around this road. They leave central Bucharest in the morning, spend 9 to 14 hours on the round trip and stop at two or three of Peles, Cantacuzino Castle in Busteni, Brasov and Bran. One Excellence Tours’ day takes about 1 hour 30 minutes to Peles, about an hour on to Brasov, 30 minutes to Bran and about 2 hours 15 minutes back. The castle tickets are extra on most of them: Dracula’s Castle tickets has Bran’s prices.
Option 2: the train to Brasov, then a bus or taxi
The trains are run by CFR Calatori from Bucharest Nord station to Brasov, and the same line stops at Sinaia, 1.9 km on foot below Peles Castle. CFR prices its tickets by the type of train, the class and the distance, with a seat reservation fee on trains that require one. Its online timetable and ticket sites were unavailable when we checked on 3 November 2026, so we print no times or fares here: look them up on cfrcalatori.ro before you go.
From Brasov, Bran is 28.4 km by road. Ticket-booking sites list buses from Brasov’s Autogara 2 bus station to Bran, run by private companies; we found no timetable or fare published by the companies or by the city, so treat any times you read as something to confirm at the station. A taxi from Brasov is the other way. Done this way, Bran in a single day from Bucharest means two long legs each way; it works far better from a night in Brasov.

Option 3: a private car
A car with a driver from your hotel follows your own timing: it can reach Bran when it opens and Peles inside its morning time slot, which a group coach cannot always do. Day Trip Romania’s private day from Bucharest takes up to 7 people with an English-speaking guide and driver, from $154 a person on Viator, checked November 2026; the price per person falls as the group grows.
If you stay in Brasov
Brasov is the better base for Bran: the small-group days from Brasov reach Bran Castle, the Rasnov citadel and the bear sanctuary in about 6 hours. The Rasnov citadel and Brasov’s old town have the details.
