The best time for a Dracula’s Castle day trip from Bucharest is a Wednesday to Sunday outside the Peles closures: Peles Castle, the usual first stop, is shut every Monday and Tuesday and from 2 November to 1 December 2026, and Bran Castle opens only at noon on Mondays. Bran itself publishes no weekly closing day: 9:00 to 18:00 in winter and to 19:00 from April. In December 2026 that makes Wednesday 2 December the first day both castles can be seen inside. Bran closes at 18:00 until 31 March 2027, and at 19:00 in the summer season that starts on 1 April, the closing time being the last entry. Peles has no seasonal hours; its last entry is 16:00, and it is closed from 2 November to 1 December 2026.
The Black Church in Brasov, the usual lunch stop, opens at noon on Sundays and Mondays and at 10:00 on the other days, so a group in Brasov on a Sunday or Monday morning finds it shut (Brasov’s old town has its hours).
The seasons
Summer, April to October. Bran stays open until 19:00. The castle’s home page advises booking tickets online in advance, especially for the summer months. For a day trip in July or August, buy the Bran ticket online for the date as soon as the tour is booked, and the Peles ticket for a morning slot.
Winter, November to March. Bran closes at 18:00, and the drive back to Bucharest is in the dark. The castle published no separate prices for January to March 2027 when this page was checked, and no closures for Christmas or New Year. Weather and traffic can change the order of the stops and the time you get back, in any season.
Halloween at Bran
Halloween is the castle’s biggest week, and an unusual one. In 2026, under the title “The Legend of Dracul”, it sold only Halloween tickets from 24 to 30 October and on 1 November, with evening and night packages on 31 October and no guided tours in that period. Halloween 2026 is over, and the castle had announced nothing for Halloween 2027 when this page was checked on 3 November 2026. December
On 1 December 2026, Romania’s national day, the castle lights its Christmas tree, with free entry to the Royal Park; tours of the castle that day are sold separately. Peles reopens after its November closure on Wednesday 2 December, since 1 December is a Tuesday and the museum is shut on Tuesdays.
The dates to avoid in late 2026
- Saturday 7 November: last entry at Bran is 15:00, for a private event.
- Monday 9 and 16 November: the Black Church in Brasov is closed for its autumn cleaning.
- 16 to 18 November: the Tampa cable car in Brasov is shut for maintenance.
- 2 November to 1 December: Peles is closed. Pelisor, beside it, was closed until 3 November.
