How a Dracula's Castle Tour Works

What the day covers, what it costs once the castle tickets are added, how the Dracula story attaches to Bran, and the days when Peles is shut.

A Dracula’s Castle tour is a day trip from Bucharest to Bran Castle, the castle on a rock above the village of Bran that is marketed to the world as Dracula’s Castle, with Peles Castle in Sinaia and the old town of Brasov on the same day. Bran is 185.9 km by road from the Grand Hotel Bucharest on the direct road through Sinaia and Rasnov, and the group days cover the coach, the timing and the three stops for one price. The one this page follows is One Excellence Tours’ Dracula’s Castle, Peles & Brasov Day Trip from Bucharest, 11 to 12 hours, with 13,170 reviews. It was from $28 in current promotion (usually $56) a person, checked November 2026; the castle tickets are extra.

Before you book: November 2026

Peles Castle is closed from 2 November to 1 December 2026 for cleaning and conservation, according to the museum’s own site, and it is closed every Monday and Tuesday all year. On Mondays and Tuesdays the day trips stop outside it, in the grounds; for the 2 November to 1 December closure some operators visit Pelisor instead and others do not say, so ask before booking a November date. Pelisor, the smaller royal castle beside it, was closed until 3 November 2026; its usual days, like Peles’s, are Wednesday to Sunday. Bran Castle is open every day on winter hours from 1 November: 9:00 to 18:00, and from 12:00 on Mondays. On Saturday 7 November the last entry at Bran is 15:00 because of a private event. Each of these was read on the museums’ own sites on 3 November 2026.

The short answer

Take a group day trip unless you want to sleep in Brasov: by train and bus, Bran is a long way from Bucharest for one day, and the day trips do the driving, the order of the stops and the return for one per-person price. One Excellence Tours’ day leaves the taxi rank next to the Grand Hotel Bucharest and stops at Peles, then Brasov for lunch, then Bran. Add the castle tickets to the price when you compare: 100 lei for an adult at Bran, and 100 lei at Peles when it is open (November 2026).

Where everything is

Map of the day trip from the Grand Hotel Bucharest north to Peles Castle in Sinaia, on to Brasov and Bran Castle, and back to Bucharest
The Grand Hotel Bucharest to Peles Castle, Sinaia (139.8 km by road), Brasov’s Council Square (186.3 km) and Bran Castle (217.0 km), then back to Bucharest.

Bran is in the Carpathians in the south of Transylvania, in Brasov County, on the old pass between Transylvania and Wallachia. From Bucharest the road runs north across the plain to the mountains, climbs the Prahova valley through Sinaia, where Peles Castle stands in a side valley above the town, and Busteni, home of Cantacuzino Castle, then crosses into Transylvania and drops to Brasov. Bran is south-west of Brasov past Rasnov, at the foot of the mountains. A day trip runs this road out and back: 139.8 km by road from the Grand Hotel Bucharest to Peles, 186.3 km to Brasov’s Council Square, and 217.0 km to Bran Castle by the order the tour takes.

Is Bran really Dracula’s castle?

Only loosely, and the castle says so itself. Its own site states that Bram Stoker never visited Romania and that “Dracula – as he is perceived today – is a fictional character”. The link the castle does claim is a picture: it says Stoker described his imaginary castle from a depiction of Bran available in England at the time, and that the castle in the engraving of the novel’s first edition bears a striking resemblance to Bran.

The historical Vlad the Impaler, ruler of Wallachia, is a different matter. The castle writes that it is not known whether he ever conquered Bran, and that “it seems” he was held prisoner there for two months in 1462, a fact it attributes to a book published in 2002. That is the whole of the connection. What you see inside is a castle first documented in a royal charter of 19 November 1377, given to Queen Marie of Romania by the people of Brasov in 1920 and furnished by her as a home. The guides tell the legend; the rooms tell the royal story.

The day, step by step

The coach leaves from the taxi rank on the main avenue next to the Grand Hotel Bucharest; be there 30 minutes before the start time shown when you pick a date, because the tour does not wait. The first leg is about 1 hour 30 minutes to Peles Castle in Sinaia, the royal family’s former summer residence. About an hour on, the group has free time for lunch in Brasov’s old town, where Council Square and the Black Church are a few minutes apart on foot. Then it is about 30 minutes to Bran for a guided tour and free time, and about 2 hours 15 minutes back to Bucharest, with 14 drop-off points in the centre.

The order can change with the season, the weather and opening hours, and a delay can leave only the outside of one castle. Inside the castles you go at your own pace. A tour director rides on the coach, and an audio commentary in 14 languages plays on your phone; bring your own phone, headphones and mobile data. The day is not suitable for children under 7.

What the price includes

The day is a per-person seat on the coach. It covers the transport from central Bucharest and back, the tour director and the audio commentary. Lunch is extra, and so are the castle tickets, which you buy at each castle. At the prices the museums published for November 2026:

TicketAdultChildStudentSenior
Bran Castle, Standard Tour100 lei40 lei (5 to 17)60 lei70 lei (65+)
Bran add-on: Time Tunnel or Torture Rooms30 lei each
Peles Castle (ground and first floor)100 lei25 lei50 lei (pensioners)
Pelisor Castle30 lei7.5 lei15 lei (pensioners)

From bran-castle.com and peles.ro, read 3 November 2026. Bran’s prices include VAT; children under 5 go in free at Bran, children up to 7 at Peles.

On a day when both castles are open, the gate tickets add 200 lei for an adult. If you would rather settle them at booking, Trip2Ro’s Dracula's Castle, Peles Castle and Brasov tour has an option with the Peles and Bran tickets included; it started from $26 in current promotion (usually $52) a person, checked November 2026. Dracula’s Castle tickets covers the Bran ticket types and hours in detail.

See dates and the live price

Mondays, Tuesdays and November

Two calendars decide the day. Peles is shut on Mondays and Tuesdays all year, and through November 2026 it stays shut while the museum cleans it. Bran opens at noon on Mondays. A day trip on a Monday or Tuesday therefore sees Peles from outside, and on a Monday it reaches Bran in the afternoon anyway. If the inside of Peles matters to you, travel from Wednesday to Sunday, from 2 December 2026. Is Peles Castle open? has the hours and the time-slot tickets. If it does not, a day with Cantacuzino Castle in Busteni, such as Wonder Tours Romania’s day with Peles, Cantacuzino, Bran and Brasov, keeps two interiors on the day.

From Brasov instead

If you are staying in Brasov, Bran is a short drive: small-group days from Brasov add the Rasnov citadel and the bear sanctuary at Zarnesti. MAYA TOURS srl’s Bran Castle, Bear Sanctuary and Rasnov Citadel tour takes up to 8 people for about 6 hours. The citadel itself is closed for restoration, and only its garden and the Bathory Tower can be visited: the Rasnov citadel explains. Getting to Brasov or Bran without a tour is in Bucharest to Bran Castle.
